Mid-term Exam #2 and Final Exam

Hello all,

Next Monday 25th will be your last class with me.  At 12 noon I will be joining Pedro for the oral exams until 1pm. If we finish on time, I will be doing lab work after that, recording the rest of the material for the final exam (everything is on the CD; see topics below).  You can come earlier than your scheduled lab group if we finish with oral exams and if there's room to fit you all in the lab.

These are the topics/materials you must prepare for Mid-term Exam #2:
From my booklet:
Pages 24-25: Unit 36 "Non-prominence on Final Empty Content Words"
Pages 28-29: Unit 38 "Prominence in Reflexive and Personal Pronouns"
Pages 34-35: Unit 42 "Cleft Sentences"
Diction:
How Now Brown Cow: Dialogues 54, 55 and 56.
Say It With Rhythm II ("Frank's Return to England"): Parts 2, 3, and 4

Final Exam Topics:
-All the theoretical material from my booklet discussed in class and included in Mid-terms 1 and 2.
-Diction: all the dialogues (dialogues 51 to 57) and (Parts 1 to 5).

I wish you all the best in the final efforts of the term and I look forward to seeing you again in future courses.
Kind regards,

Marina López Casoli

TP #2 Prof. Marina López Casoli

Hello all,

On Monday June 11th we will be carrying out TP #2 in my class during the usual hours (12-4pm).  The material you must prepare individually is the dialogue on pages 68-69 of my booklet that reads "Unit 1 (Intonation in Context)" following these guidelines:

  • Mark on the dialogue all the kinetic and static stresses only (be ready to justify your choices).  There CANNOT be any  notes on theory on these pages.
  • Analyze FOCUS (broad or narrow) and justify why.
  • Be prepared to answer questions on the three Ts, tones, stress vs. prominence, rhythm, functions of intonation, linguistic and pragmatic meanings, grammar terms, and all other theoretical concepts studied so far in Prof. Luchini's, Sordelli's and my classes.
The oral TP will take place in the Lab, so you should all come at the assigned time.  While a student is doing the TP with me, the rest will be in the Lab practising diction material.  Classes will NOT be cancelled on account of the oral TPs.

Thank you and see you next Monday June 4th at 12 in class.
